How to take a screenshot? An integrated approach to solving the problem
Many computer users probably faced the task when it was necessary to take a screenshot (“photos” of the screen). Often, for these purposes, special programs are used that have wide capabilities, but in most cases, you can do with the built-in Windows tools.
To do this, the keyboard has a special key – Print Screen (PrtScn), most often located in the upper right corner of the keyboard. You can use it in two ways:
Simply, when you click Print Screen, the entire screen will be “photographed”.
Pressing the Alt + Print Screen combination will take a screenshot of the currently active window.
When you press the Print Screen key (or the combination of Print Screen + Alt) nothing happens. The fact is that the picture is temporarily placed on the clipboard, and to get it out of there, you should use a graphics editor (for example Paint or Adobe Photoshop) or paste the picture into the desired application (for example, Word).
Paitn is a graphical editor built into Windows. You can start it by clicking on the link Start – Programs – Accessories – Paint.
To paste a picture from the clipboard, you need to go to the “Edit” menu and select the “Paste” action, or simply press the “ctrl + v” key combination. If desired, you can edit the screenshot in the editor (make captions, select something, etc.) and save it in a separate file (File – Save as …) or press the combination “ctrl + s”.
But such a method is as they say “basic” or native Windows. It is ineffective.
If you want to take screenshots as they say “professionally” (literally translated as a screen shot), then I present to your attention a specialized program called Snagit. This is a true professional comprehensive tool for creating first-class screenshots. This program allows you to photograph anything on the screen of your computer, its functionality is huge.
The main purpose of the program is to take screenshots from the monitor screen, and SnagIt can take not only static graphic “snapshots” of the selected area, but also, for example, record what is happening on the screen in a video, as well as capture a picture from applications using Direct X, DirectDraw and Direct 3D. The built-in annotation editor allows you to add to the screenshot, a description, emphasize something, crop, cut, paste, if necessary, in the right place, for example, an arrow, etc.
In addition, the program allows you to “pull” the text from where it does not move using the Copy / Paste commands. Of the additional functions: support for working with scanners and digital cameras, as well as the ability to automatically send screenshots made by the program to the website. And many other little things: hotkey management, the ability to use presets, pulling out icons and other graphics from EXE and DLL, taking a screenshot from a web page that requires scrolling to view, and much more.
In general, a better tool for taking screenshots than Snagit can not be found on the network.
If you want to take a screenshot from some kind of game, then offering to use the Fraps program. This program is designed to work with 3D applications, games. It allows you to record video from the screen during the game and take first-class screenshots.
Fraps – designed to count the number of FPS (frames per second) in applications running in OpenGL and Direct3D modes. The utility can take screenshots and record videos with a screen image. This is a universal Windows application that can work with all games that use DirectX or OpenGL technology.
Fraps can perform the following functions:
performance testing – displays the number of frames per second (FPS), can measure the performance between two points during the game
means for capturing images – allows you to capture individual frames in 3D applications (by pressing a hot key), which are automatically saved in the selected folder
real-time video capture – allows you to record video at resolutions up to 1152×864 and 100 frames per second.
That’s all. A set of these applications can seriously help in solving all the problems associated with taking screenshots from a computer screen. I hope you find this article helpful.
