How to make Microsoft Internet explorer the default browser?

It happens that when you start some third-party browser, you accidentally clicked on the “Use by default” button and now you want to make your good old Explorer the default browser. This article describes all the ways how this can be done on all versions of this browser.

The easiest and fastest way
Launch Explorer -> in the menu (top, left) click on “Tools” -> go to the very bottom entry “Internet Options” -> select the “Programs” tab -> there it will write “Browsing program by default -> click on the button “Use by default”, you can also check the box next to “Notify if Internet Explorer is not used by default,” so that when you start a window pops up to make the browser the default if you suddenly again set the “main” another browser.

Actions without going into the browser itself
1. Control Panel-> Add or Remove Programs-> Select Programs by Default. install IE there
2. Control Panel-> folder properties-> File Types. Carefully go through the list and assign there the default application for the necessary files – IE

Most common
To make Microsft Internet Explorer’s native Windows browser by default, launch Internet Explorer and click Yes when the following message is displayed:

Internet Explorer is not the default Internet browser. Use it as your default browser?
If you do not want to use Internet Explorer as your default browser, click No. To prevent this message from appearing in the future, uncheck the Always perform such a check at startup box before clicking the No button.

By default, Internet Explorer checks to see if it is the default browser each time it starts. If, when you start Internet Explorer, the web document files (HTML) are mapped to another browser, Internet Explorer recognizes the situation and offers to choose yourself as the default browser.

If earlier versions of the browser were not used as default browsers, new versions are not automatically configured as such browsers, and the message described above continues to be displayed. A message prompting you to set Internet Explorer as your default browser is displayed until you select Internet Explorer as your default browser or clear the Always run this check at startup check box.

To manually set Internet Explorer as the default browser, follow the steps below to select the suggested actions based on your version of Internet Explorer.
