Can Kaspersky Anti-Virus protect a computer?

Today, in the age of the Internet and the global exchange of information without an antivirus, you can’t do it at all, probably everyone knows this. Which antivirus is better? People often ask this question when choosing protection for their computer. How else? After all, a home PC is one of the most important components of our daily lives. And if at work (in the office) a system administrator is responsible for protecting your personal computer, then at home this responsibility is assigned to you. Information on a home computer is very expensive for everyone, because there are a lot of your photos (how you went to resorts, had fun at various holidays and events, as well as home photo shoots, or maybe something else) videos, collections of your favorite music, films, programs and archives with all kinds of files. Losing this information will be a big blow to you, because unlike movies and music, such (personal) files cannot be restored (downloaded) in any way (unless you have made copies of these files to external media). That is why the issue of protecting your home computer with antivirus should be taken very seriously.

There are many products in this category on the market, of different quality, price and from different developers. Nobody knows for sure which antivirus is better than everyone else, because it is almost impossible to verify thoroughly due to many factors. On the Internet you can find many different articles on this topic. Basically, all the checks come down to the fact that on a computer infected with viruses, one starts up different anti-virus programs and looks at how many viruses a particular anti-virus found and at what speed, as well as how many resources it requested from the machine. It would seem that the test is transparent but not so simple as it seems at first glance. After all, the people who conducted this test do not know exactly how many real viruses there are on the infected PC. So for example, one antivirus (smarter) will pass by some crack for a game or fix for a program, realizing that this file is not a virus, but only its likeness. And another antivirus (such as Kaspersky), by its stupidity (or stupidity, or maybe the tricks of the developers), will count such files as viruses (including any crack for programs) and thus it turns out that this antivirus is more effective because found the maximum number of viruses. Of course, if every third suspicious file (the picture is not in that extension, or JavaScript) considers a near-by antivirus to be a virus, then it is better than its competitors. I think now you understand my skepticism about these checks, because counting the number of “viruses” found by the program, not knowing what it actually found, is at least stupid. Another thing is comparing the resources “eaten up” by the program during scanning, which is really where you can look at the quality of the antivirus engine.

“Well, that’s fine,” you say, before that there were few ways to check the effectiveness of antiviruses, and now there are almost none left.

Yes, unfortunately it is. This is what I spoke about at the beginning of the article … it is very difficult to test the antivirus for professional suitability. Therefore, you have to rely on the knowledge of people working directly in the field of IT technology.

As a system administrator and programmer, I will share my humble opinion on this subject. In this article I will tell you about Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Perhaps the most popular antivirus in Russia. Yes, yes … as popular among Russian users as all Russian Internet resources. Any web-programmer will tell you that similar Western projects are much better than domestic ones. I think I’ll give examples of comparing Google and Yandex search engines or Facebook and Vkontakte social networks or YouTube and RuTube video hosting sites or Gmail and Mail email services … not worth it. Everyone understands that Western projects are much more powerful and better than domestic ones. The same is true with the gaming industry … and in all other areas regarding IT technologies the situation is the same. Domestic projects are far behind their Western competitors. I’ll tell you a secret! With antiviruses (as you probably already guessed) the situation is the same. Domestic antiviruses cannot compete with foreign competitors, because those are far ahead. But for some reason many RuNet users still don’t understand this quality difference and therefore still use software and Internet resources of Russian origin, probably because most of the Russian users are lamers, however regrettable . Well, judge for yourself, because nevertheless we want to drive foreign cars, live in developed European countries, and use foreign products. It is so? And why? Yes, because there is better. But many of us cannot afford it due to financial problems. So why do not we use Western resources and software when we are given this for free ?! Obviously, because of stupidity, many people prefer the “Russian fret” of the “German BMW”.
